About the Event
We will be gathering for our annual Samhain Ritual and Silent Supper at 7:30. Because the meal is part of the ritual, there will not be a meal before. THIS IS A POTLUCK. As part of this ritual, we will be honoring our departed. What you bring for the potluck should be something special to commemorate the person/people you are remembering. Gramma’s casserole, brother’s chili, sister’s favorite fruit, whatever. Also, please bring a picture, token, or memento of whoever you are remembering to place on the Ancestor Altar during the ritual.
Here's how it works: The buffet table will be set up and when you arrive, please place your item on the table, but don’t start eating. We will have the usual sage, Florida water, anointing with oil and taking our places in the circle. We will cast the circle, call the quarters, invoke the deities, and invoke our departed. We will fill our plates, put a bite of whatever we brought on the COMMUNAL PLATE on the ANCESTOR ALTAR and be seated. We will ring a bell 3 times and eat IN SILENCE while contemplating life, death, rebirth, and the mysteries of spirit. After we have all finished, the bell will be rung 3 times and we will have an opportunity to share any thoughts, memories, or feelings. We will then retake our places in the circle for cakes and mead, then close the circle in the usual way. There will be plenty of time after to have another go at the buffet and stick around for fellowship.
Because this is a SIT-DOWN DINNER, and not our usual haphazard pre-ritual meal, it is VERY IMPORTANT that we know how many people are coming so we have enough tables and seats for everyone. We need an accurate count no later than October 25th. This may not be the best ritual for very small children. Suggested donation: $10/person or $15/family
